Supernaturalstars Jensen Ackles (The Boys) and Misha Collins (Gotham Knights) recently took to social media to jokingly demand their fair share of HBO’s highly successful seriesThe Last of Us.
The Last of Us, based on the game series of the same name, has been breaking HBO and streaming records and gaining critical acclaim as its first season comes to an end in the coming weeks. Like the game, the show follows the story of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they fight the cordyceps-infected zombies and the more human enemies of a post-apocalyptic world. The show’s success has driven new interest in the game, including the second installment of the franchise,The Last of Us 2, which features some familiar names toSupernaturalfans.

On Twitter, Collins joked about receiving royalties fromThe Last of Usdue to his and Ackles' role as the game’s “two most recognizable and central characters,” referencing a scene inthe 2ndThe Last of Usgamewhere Ellie leans about comic book conventions at a Seattle convention center overrun with zombies. A left-behind letter includes references to a “Jensen” and “Misha” and their assumingly failed attempt to battle their way out of the convention center with the lines: “I got ambushed on my way to relieve Misha at the monorail lookout” and “And tell Mish I’m sorry, I tried to hustle.” Ackles played along, alluding to mysterious checks in the mail.
Both stars are regular features at comic, horror, and fan conventions nationwide. So, the presence of Collins and Ackles is a great little easter egg forSupernaturalfans playing the game. ForSupernatural’s comic duo, an appearance inThe Last of Usuniverse is a treat and a fitting end to the actors who played characters fighting the apocalypse season after season on the WB network. ThoughSupernaturalended in 2020 after 15 seasons, both actors have been enjoying new roles, with Ackles on Amazon’sThe BoysandCollins in The CW’sGotham Knightsseries.
Ackles has also been making appearances in the first season of theSupernaturalspinoff prequelThe Winchesters, and with CW’s bringing back other popular characters like Rowena (Ruth Connell) to boost the show’s numbers, it may be only a matter of time until Collins reprises his role as Castiel. GivenSupernatural’s love of wacky alternate universes and strange happenings, as well as a still enthusiastic fandom, it’s not entirely off the table for fans to spot Ackles and Collins for real in the forthcomingThe Last of Usseason 2. Fans can only hope.
