Thor: Love and Thunder’smovie theater adventure is finally coming to an end, as MCU’s latest blockbuster will bolster Disney Plus' content library in just a couple of weeks.

The announcement was made official by Disney andMarvel’s Twitteraccounts, with the streaming release being set for September 8, exactly two months after the movie originally hit theaters in most parts of the world. With that,Thor: Love and Thunderwill become part of the company’s Disney Plus Day celebration that will see it coincide with the new live-actionPinocchio, a newShe-Hulkepisode,Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return, and Pixar’sCars on the Roadseries.

With that,Thor: Love and Thunderslightly surpassesDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' theatre-to-streaming window, with the latter coming just short of a seven-week period. Clearly, the god of Thunder will not be the streaming service’s headliner on that date, asTom Hanks’Pinocchio, directed by Robert Zemeckis, takes the spotlight ahead of Marvel Studios' movie offering. Despite most likely collecting some healthy profits for Disney, Taika Waititi’sThor: Love and Thunderhas been one of the most critically panned films made by Marvel Studios, with critical reviews and fan appreciation sitting near the bottom end of the MCU library. As with theDoctor Strangesequel andMs. Marvel,Thorwill also hit streaming on the same day that a brand new MCU series episode comes out.

WhileThor: Love and Thunderreassured fans that Hemsworth’s Thor will indeed come back, some of its faults speak of a bigger problem that seems to affect practicallythe entirety of Marvel Studios' Phase Four productions.Thor: Love and Thunderbenefited from seeing new characters like Hercules and Jane Foster entering Valhalla, not to mention the high comedic value. However, aspects like Loki’s absence, among others, possibly hurt the film’s reputation and rewatch potential.

Besides the competition on Disney Plus,Thor: Love and Thunder’s home release overlaps with an incredibly busy streaming schedule on all platforms that includes HBO’sHouse of the Dragon, Amazon’sLord of the Rings: TheRings of Power, Netflix’sCobra Kai,Rick and Morty’s new season, and, of course,She-Hulkherself. ConsideringThor:Love and Thundersaw Thor at his most vulnerable emotional state, that seems like quite a fitting scenario.

Thor: Love and Thunderwill be available on Disney Plus starting on July 20, 2025.
