Retro FPSs were known for their speed as much as their violence, andUltrakillis no different. Grabbing the right gear, learning enemy weaknesses, and properly navigating levels are all vital, but there’s an even more basic consideration: key bindings.

FPS games don’t get much faster or more hectic thanUltrakill,and the player needs the best bindings they can to keep up with all that speed and violence. Every player has a different opinion on what key bindings are the “best,” and ultimately a player’s personal preference is the ultimate determining factor, but there are still some bindings that tend to make life a little easier in the midst of command. Here are our recommendations for the best weapon key bindings inUltrakill.
First Binding
Key bindings may seem like a minor issue in FPSs compared tosilent protagonists and the endless hunt for key cards,but every FPS player understands the benefit of being able to switch weapons or reload a fraction of a second quicker. Since in a heated battle the right key bindings can be the only thing keeping one alive, it’s important to get the details right. For PC players, it all starts with the mouse and keyboard.

PC bindings can be tricky to recommend, given that one player might have a mouse with 16 buttons while another only has two default buttons and the scroll wheel. There are several excellent options for weapon key bindings inUltrakilll,makingdifficult shooters like this onea bit easier. Here’s the first:

A common complaint amongstUltrakillfans is the disruption of game flow caused by moving their fingers off WASD (thus interrupting movement), and while opening theWeapon WheelwithQis one solution, it isn’t exactly the most fluid.Ultrakillis a short FPS,but that doesn’t mean players want to drag out fights. As an alternative to the aforementioned weapon key bindings, the player may benefit from this configuration:
Swap Arm Mod- Mouse 4
Grappling Hook- Mouse 5
Ultrakillis a fantastic example of its genre,so any rebinding that can make the game easier and more inviting to players is a win. Rebinding theRailguntoRinstead ofZcan make swapping to that weapon much more fluid, as the hand position required for Z-swapping can be burdensome to some. For many players,binding the Arm Variant to a side mouse button makes for the easiest switching on the fly.
Whether playingan underrated FPS or the biggest shooters around,remember to be patient when learning new key bindings to give them time to see if they are a real improvement, as frequent fumbles are common early on. Ultimately, the best keybindings are whichever ones a player prefers.
