The Midnight Clubis a haunting tale on many levels. It’s sad, for one, as the main character Ilonka graduates high school with honors. She’s hoping to go to college and has a bright future in her eyes before she’s hit with cancer. Eventually, Ilonka decides to transfer from a hospital to a hospice house for teens.

Everything seems fine at the manoruntil spooky happeningskeep erupting. What’s going on inThe Midnight Club? Is it all in the heads of these teens or is there something haunting the manor? Let’s attempt to unravel the unanswered questions and senseless plot threads. There will be spoilers.
7What’s Up With Dr. Stanton?
One of the biggest questions that left viewers hanging was the final shot of Dr. Stanton. She removes a wig, revealing that she is bald and has an hourglass tattoo. Does this mean she has cancer currently? Natsuki talks abouta Japanese legendof ghosts sucking the souls out of healthy or sick individuals to get stronger.
She thinks the old ghosts Kevin and Ilonka see could be like-minded spirits. In a roundabout way, this could be what Dr. Stanton is doing. Is she inviting teens to her manor so that she can such out their souls and live another day?

6The Janitor And The Rest Of The Staff
The janitor seems to know more than he is letting on. He’s seen twice throughout the ten-episode run, both times delicately making the bed of a deceased teen. He seems wise beyond his years and is unaffected by the reality of where he is standing. Why does he only show up for these scenes? Could he be some sort of otherworldly presence inThe Midnight Club?

Also, where are the other staff members throughout the show? For a hospice tasked with taking care of kids, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of help. The teens getto do whatever they please with very few scenes with anyone other than Mark and Dr. Stanton to stop them.
Ilonka can figure out the ritual after she finds the hourglass journal in the library. At first, it seems like it has always been there but later on, Dr. Stanton is confused. She asks Ilonka where she got the journal and is surprised to find out it was in the library.

This could have been an act on her part but it could have also been someone else that put it there. It could have been a ghost or maybe someone on staff with ulterior motives. It’s gone now but if this book is mystical, it could survive Dr. Stanton’s fireplace. Stranger things have happenedin horror shows.
4What Happened To Julia?
Julia’s identity was hiding in plain sight inThe Midnight Clubthatany TV detectivecould have figured out. The red hair alone was a dead giveaway that Shasta was Julia all along. The one unknown mystery is what happened to her after the failed ritual.
Did she retreat to her compound or flee somewhere else? Also, is she working with someone higher up? As is the case with most season one villains, they can get controlled by a higher power for a season two reveal. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen.

3Is Brightcliffe Haunted?
This is the fourth iteration of this series which has taken on many names. The Haunting of Hill HouseandThe Haunting of Bly Manordid involve ghosts whileMidnight Masswas about vampires. It seems odd to go back to ghosts again forThe Midnight Clubbut it could be possible.
Kevin and Ilonka see two old ghosts and many patients claim to have seen black figures lurking in the shadows. This could be a trick of the mind mixed with drugs which would be a twist for the show. It would be the first series wherein nothing mystical was going on. Perhaps the “cured” patients truly were because of a lucky fluke but only a second season can answer those riddles.

2Did Anya Come Back?
One of the cruelest tricks Sandra pulls in the show is pretending to be the ghost of Tristan. She wanted to give her friends hope in the afterlife but it backfired on her. All these teens want is for someone to pass on and then give them a sign that there is something beyond life on Earth.

Anya could have left Ilonka a solid clue by repairing the ballerina statue. Now, this might be impossible for a ghost though because that means Anya somehow has creative powers to make a foot and is somehow able to glue things back together. That’s a lot of powers fora fresh ghost. The same person who fixed the statue could have also been behind the journal in the library but it probably wasn’t Sandra again.
1The Scrying Story
The anthology horror stories these teens tell are not important to the main narrative. Also, most are filled with plot holes which is understandable given that the idea behind them is that these characters think them up on the fly sometimes. However, there is one story that has too many questions in it.
Ilonka’s story about the mother and daughter psychics leaves a lot to be desired. One, why did the mom save the girl when she had a daughter to take care of? This girl doesn’t come back to the story either, making it even weirder. Secondly, the mother warns her daughter not to scry at night but never reveals why.
