Until Dawngot its start in development for the PS3, but ultimately launched for the PS4 instead and was met with critical success and acclaim. The title aimed to recreate theslasher movie experience in video game format, and brought on numerous well-known actors to potray the motion and voices of the playable cast. Players and critics particularly liked the way the story evolved, as decisions made in the game could have significant impacts on the survival of characters down the line.
Now,Until Dawn’s remakehas finally been revealed in full, and is coming to both the PlayStation 5 and PCs in the fall of 2024. An exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet. During May’s PlayStation State of Play, a brief trailer for the title was shown, showcasing some of the visual improvements that have come with the title’s migration to Unreal Engine 5. Models and textures have visibly improved, but perhaps the biggest stand-out is the title’s lighting. The horror element is exemplified by the dark shadows and contrast, and will likely keep new players guessing about what’s around every corner.
What’s New in the Until Dawn Remake
Previously, the remake revealed that a lot of new content is also coming to the title in addition to the visual overhaul. The story is expanded, there are new locations and collectibles to check out, and some animations have been reworked. However, there are elements of change that may concern fans of the original, as well.
This remake is being handled by a different developer than the original.Supermassive Games created the originaltitle, while Ballistic Moon is handling the remake. Additionally, the game is going to feature a new score, which won’t be by the original composer. Jason Graves wrote the original soundtrack for the game, and went on to have his work featured in other Supermassive Games titles likeThe Dark Pictures Anthology. However, this remake’s soundtrack will be composed by Mark Korven, who has worked on acclaimed horror films likeThe Witch.
While there’s still a lot that’s yet to berevealed with theUntil Dawnremake, fans are getting excited for a chance to revisit the horror experience with a few new twists. With any luck, it’ll launch early enough in fall for players to be able to enjoy it as part of a spooky Halloween experience later this year.
