The All-Father Odin has tasked new Valkyrie Nora with preventing the completion of Ragnarok inValkyrie Elysium. With that in mind, players might want to get to know more about the game that started the entireValkyriefranchise:Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. The game puts players in control of Lenneth Valkyrie in her search of worthy warriors to fight the impending threat of Vanir ice giants. Players not only have to use Lenneth’s impressive skillset, but also train fallen warriors she encounters to be worthy of the Aesir’s army.
Thankfully, Lenneth’s journey has them train in their respective specializations, allowing them to access skills that made them worthy of Lenneth’s call in the first place. Players may want to get a deeper look into Lenneth’s gameplay prior to playingValkyrie Elysium. Just what are the best Skills available inValkyrie Profile: Lenneth?

10Avoid
There’s no better way to increase a team’s survivability ina JRPG likeValkyrie Profilethan to ensure attacks from enemies don’t hit entirely? This is whatAvoidcan do for its users, and it’s acquired during the transfer request of Chapter 7. Thankfully, Avoid is usable by all characters, making it a nifty survival option in dire situations.

Avoid will boost the AGL of a character based on Skill Level x 3,meaning players can get as +24 AGL buff as soon as this Skill is activated. Given how AGL is a core attribute, this boost can become a significant game-changer in difficult boss battles or if players need to clutch a dodge for an extra turn.
9Defend
Given the brutal nature of theValkyrie Profiletitle’s gameplay, any way for players to lessen the damage done to their characters will always be a good thing — especially in higher difficulties. This is whereDefendcomes in. This Skill is available to all characters during the transfer request of Chapter 5.
Once acquired, Defend canboost the RDM (Reduce Damage) of a character by as much as Skill Level x 10.This means players can get as much as +80 RDM boosts. This can be more than enough for a saving grace and an extra turn to turn the tide of battle.

8Resist Damage
Defend does a decent job boosting characters' survivability in theValkyrie Elysiumprequel, that are relatively squishy in an RPG. However, Resist Damage does a much better job if based on statistics alone.Resist Damageis available to all characters, and it’s a nifty way of damage mitigation. This Skillboosts the RDM (Resist Damage) of its caster based on the Skill Level x 20. For example, this means players can get as much as +160 RDM for Lv8 Resist Damage.
Players can acquire Resist Damage during the transfer request of Chapter 5. This skill is a convenient way for tanks to be more durable, and for mages to be more reliable in case of emergencies.

7Wait Reaction
In most RPG titles with difficult stages, sometimes even the slightest attacks make the most difference. Such is the case of theWait Reaction, a Sorcerer-only Skill that taps into the power of their familiars to dish out mean damage in case of emergencies.

When activated,Wait Reaction allows players to tap the character button if their Sorcerer still has at least 1 CT left. That way, their Familiar will attack the enemy and deal Skill Level x 100 damage, potentially dishing out at least 800 damage in one go. Not only that, attacks made through Wait Reaction cannot be avoided or guarded, making them powerful against tougher foes.
6Charge
In games likeDungeons & Dragonsand other action RPGs, a charge-related move will almost always push a target in an attempt to get them off-balanced.Lennethhas a similar function through theChargeSkill. Used only by the Swordsman, Lancer, Heavy Knight, and Samurai classes, Charge is one of the best reasons why a frontline attacker is a decent investment for combos. This is also available to Lenneth (if she uses the Sword), Freya, and Brahms.
Charge willgive players an extra command if they hold the Charge user’s buttoninstead of simply tapping it to attack. That way, the attack deals 50% more damage, but at the cost of 5% of the user’s max DME. This is akin to theFinal FantasyDragoon’sJump ability, which is a delayed but powerful attack. Despite the risky cost, Charge can be an efficient attack to use against elites and bosses.

5Combo Counter
When it comes to dishing out consistent damage in any RPG, it always boils down to nailing rotations, especially for heavy-hitters. InLenneth, theCombo CounterSkill is usable byValkyrie Profilecharactersof the Swordsman, Lancer, Heavy Knight, Samurai, and Archer Classes for a steady 40 CP cost. This is also available to Lenneth, Freya, and Brahms.
Combo Counter users candish out all attacks they possess when they press their character button in quick succession. However, the attacks that happen in this rotation will be set based on the attack order that was set to counter attacks. When positioned properly, this gives players easy access to juggling mechanics, which is useful against most foes.

4Reverie
Sometimes, one of the best reasons to stay and play a JRPG is when they have access to flashy attacks — andReverieisLenneth’s equivalent. Available to the Swordsman, Lancer, Heavy Knight, and Samurai, this Skill consistently costs 90 CP. This is also available to Lenneth (with the Sword), Freya, and Brahms.

What’s interesting is how Reverie is pulled off. If this Skill is activated, Reverie willrelease a double of the user that will do extra attacks during the original’s combo, raking more points toscore higher ranks in theValkyrie Profilegame. These attacks deal 30% of the original damage of the attacks chosen. While they do contribute to the combo, the extra attacks don’t contribute to the energy meter. The double will disappear by the time the user gets hit at a certain damage threshold.
3Splash
JRPG players know how valuable extra damage is when it comes to dishing out attacks.Splashis a great way forLennethplayers to secure extra numbers. This is available to the Swordsman, Lancer, Heavy Knight, and Samurai, as well as Lenneth (wiith the Sword), Freya, and Brahms. It’s perfectfor DPS roles.
Splash generates a shockwave around the user whenever they release an attack. This shockwave goes into the same direction of the attack, dealing up to 20% damage based on the Skill’s level. Compared to Reverie, Splash’s shockwave will contribute to the energy meter instead, but not the hits generated.

2Guts
When faced with insurmountable odds, sometimes all a JRPG players need in a drastic situation is one more chance. InLenneth,Gutsis one way to give Lenneth and her team another shot in combat. This Skill is available to everyone, making it a rather trusty method of getting an emergency revive — similar to survival skills oftanks inFinal Fantasygames.
With this Skill, the user gets a certain threshold that will immediately revive them with a single-digit DME if they die. This has a 40% chance of triggering at Level 1, with succeeding Levels boosting the same chance with 40% plus Skill Level x 5.

1Auto-Item
Fans ofFinal Fantasymay remember the Gambit feature inFF12, where players can set “commands” that automatically execute when certain conditions are met. InLenneth,Auto-Itemis a similar functionality that all characters can use. This adds a more useful strategic element similar toother tactical RPGsthat lets players have more control over the battlefield.
As the name suggests, Auto-Itemautomatically uses certain items when certain conditions are met.Priorities per item used can be set under the Skill Setup menu, wherein there’s also a Skill Level x 40-percent chance of triggering said items when meeting these conditions. Example methods include using Elixirs at low DME, or using Union Plume upon a party member’s death.
