Pokemon Day is February 27, and while nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the holiday has been celebrated extensively for the past few years. Pokemon Day is next Monday, as of this writing, and so a new Pokemon Presents is likely to be announced before the week is out. There’s little doubt the showcase will feature new content forPokemon Scarlet and Violet, but if anything, these events are not usually one-trick ponies.

Pokemon fans can expect a plethora of announcements based on the games, the anime, new merch, and more.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetmay be the most exciting thing there, as many fans have assumed it would be for weeks, and it’s the best time to put Gen 9 on a stage again. The base games do plenty to set up DLC, while prominent leaker Riddler Khu’s recent activity suggests more is to come soon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Announced

Prior to the release ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, the third legendary leaked online, as well asParadox forms for Suicune and Virizion. The games themselves heavily hint at the addition of Ultra Beasts, while there are plenty of story hints tied to Heath, Area Zero, and more still unexplored. In other words, based on in-game content and past patterns,Pokemon Scarlet and VioletDLC is more of a matter of when, not if. Based onPokemon Sword and Shield,it stands to reason thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetwill get a season pass with two DLC releases, but there’s really no telling there. While the exact form remains to be seen, fans can easily expect to see the DLC announced there, with new Pokemon, new additions, new story content, and much, much more.

New Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is Possible

Although it is less likely thanPokemon S/V DLC, the big spin-off game treat may be tied toPokemon Mystery Dungeon. One of the earliest, confirmed celebrations for Pokemon Day is an event called Pokemon Together, which recently launched with the event website. Fans digging into the code found a copyright attribution toSpike Chunsoft, the developer of thePokemon Mystery Dungeonseries. The last Switch remaster came out in 2020, so another one for the next games in the series (Explorers of Time and Darkness) makes sense. There’s a slight chance it could be a new entry in the franchise, but a remaster remains more likely. With this discovery, the popularity of the spin-off series, and the recent spike of roguelike games, this could very well be announced at the event—though fans will have to wait and see for sure.

Rumor: Classic Pokemon Game Additions to NSO

The recent announcement that Nintendo was adding Game Boy and GBA games to Switch Online sent shockwaves through the fanbase, and while starting out with a select few games is pretty standard, many fans were quick to notice how classic, era-defining games were absent from that list. Many are hoping to see it announced on Pokemon Day, though this is less likely than even theMystery Dungeonrumor. Some fans have found potential evidence thatPokemon R/B/Y, G/S/C, and R/S/Eare coming to Switch Online, as they noticed around the time of this announcement, Nintendo removed mentions that “users wouldn’t be able to transfer Pokemon” in thePokemon Stadiumvideos for Switch Online’s Expansion pack. This could imply they launch together and, as a result, now have transfers. It’s a bit of a stretch perhaps, but no doubt that this announcement could be as big for fans as new Gen 9 DLC.

Other Pokemon Day Announcements

If there is one thing that’s almost certain not to be there, it’s a new mainline release. Last year saw the releases ofPokemon Legends: ArceusandPokemon Scarlet and Violet, which was no doubt a difficult task. The year afterPokemon Sword and Shielddidn’t see any new releases, so everything about Gen 9 has gone about as usual so far. Fans shouldn’t even expectPokemon Black and WhiteRemakes, though they’re up next on the list. That said, Pokemon Day is a big event and there will be plenty of announcements to satisfy fans beyond the big things.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetis available now for Nintendo Switch.
