Star Warsfans are in for a surprise the next time they use Google Maps. Fans of the series have discovered an Easter Egg that allows them to jump to other planets in the Solar System through light speed, similar to traveling aboard ships such as the Millennium Falcon.
This Easter Egg is the latest feature celebrating the release of the most recentStar Warsmovie. Other collaborations have ranged from story and lore tie-ins to a limited-timeFortnite event linked to the beginning of the film. But the option, while easy to use, is hidden within Google Map’sinterface normally.

How to Zoom Out
To start their jump to light speed,Star Warsfans need to head to the desktop version of Google Maps. After arriving, click the Satellite button in the lower left and zoom out by scrolling downward with the mouse wheel or hitting the minus button in the lower right corner. Once the screen has zoomed out as far as it can go, users should be greeted by a 3D model of planet Earth, a view of space, and a pop-menu on the left side of the screen that features other planets in the Solar System.
Jumping to Other Planets
Much likeprevious tweaks to the map, the process is intuitive at this point. From the Solar System list, the user can select any place they want to jump to such as Mercury, Venus, and Mars or even the different moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Afterwards, simply mouse over the desired point, left click once, and watch as Google Maps plots a course to near instantly bring users to their destination, just like in the movies.
Note that to access this feature, users need to be using the desktop browser. For the time being, trying to use the app or mobile browser will not work. Furthermore, only some regions seem to have access right now, with the plan being to add space travel to other territories in the near future.
In the end, this isn’t the first time that Google Maps has implemented such a feature. For past promotions, Google has collaborated with Nintendo forPokemonandThe Legend of Zeldarelated changes to the display. But this attempt shows Google intends to do more with its map technology, which only added the ability to explore other planets in recent years.
