The main antagonists inWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightare the Primal Incarnates, massive proto-dragons who command the very elements themselves. There are four of them, each embodying one of Azeroth’s elemental forces, but this is not a power that is new toWorld of Warcraft. Players have encountered numerous elemental minions in expansions past, some of which very nearly brought about the end of the world.
Azeroth’s elemental energies have always been chaotic, birthing powerful elementals not long after the planet formed. Chief among them are the Elemental Lords, incarnations of Azeroth’s four primary elements. The mostwell-known of these beings is Ragnaros, the Firelord, whom players have encountered multiple times over the years. But it begs the question as to whether these Elemental Lords are more potent than the Primal Incarnates, and if Azeroth’s heroes stand a chance of defeating them alone.

World of Warcraft’s Elemental Lords Used to Own Azeroth
Long ago, before even theOld Gods arrived on Azeroth, the elements were in upheaval. They existed in a constant state of war, each side battling one another in an endless conflict. Later, the Old Gods enslaved the Elemental Lords to their bidding, and the fighting never stopped. When the Titans eventually arrived to quash the Old God menace, the Elemental Lords were imprisoned as well, confined to specially-crafted Elemental Planes where they could no longer ravage Azeroth’s surface.
Many players are familiar with Ragnaros, as he was the final boss in the game’s very first raid, Molten Core.Years later, inWorld of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Ragnaros made a new appearance, this time as a staunch ally of Deathwing. In order for Elemental Lords to truly be slain, they must be defeated within their own realm, so players delved deep into the Firelands and slew the Firelord once and for all. However, this effort not only required the world’s mightiest heroes but also took the combined assistance of several Wild Gods and all of Azeroth’s druids working together.
Ragnaros was a truly formidable foe, so it is worth looking at how he compares to Fyrakk, the Flame Incarnate. Both are capable of igniting entire zones in fiery destruction, incinerating enemies with a single gesture. It’s important to also acknowledge that, sinceFyrakk has been infused with Shadowflame, his power has only increased. The blazing Incarnate also has the ability to fly, but while he truly is a force to be reckoned with, players have not yet faced him in battle and cannot know all the powers he possesses.
That being said, Ragnaros has a number of critical factors that give him an edge over Fyrakk. The Elemental Lord has innumerable legions of elementals at his command, whereas Fyrakk has to rely on the loyalty of shamanic sycophants, whose numbers will inevitably dwindle over time. Ragnaros is also effectively immortal when on Azeroth, and there is no real limit to what his powers over magma and flame can do. Players know that Fyrakk, powerful as he may be, is by no means immortal.Raszageth the Storm Incarnate was recently slainby Azeroth’s heroes, and there was no regeneration in the cards for her.
With all these factors considered, it seems that if Fyrakk were to take onRagnaros, the Elemental Lord of Firewould likely emerge superior. Ragnaros is as old as the elements themselves, while Fyrakk, although ancient, has not lived a fraction of that time. As for the other Elemental Lords, Therazane, Al’akir, and Neptulon, they too likely surpass the Incarnates in both power and longevity.
Although two of the Elemental Lords are no longer around, they could not have been defeated without the joined efforts of both mortals and immortals alike. Fyrakk the Blazing can also only be vanquished with theunited power of all the dragon Aspects, but it pays to remember who the true Lord of Fire really is.
