World of Warcraftjust revealed the name of the new World Tree being grown inDragonflight. This revelation came in one of the new cutscenes fromWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.1.5, Fractures in Time.

The newWorld of Warcraftcontent update adds tons of new content, including the Dawn of the Infinite megadungeon that continues the main story ofDragonflight. Players can access a series of cutscenes before, during, and after the instance that involve the conflicts in the dungeon and tease some of the things players canexpect in the next chapter of theDragonflightexpansion.

The epilogue cutscene after the megadungeon features Alexstrasza, Nozdormu, and Chromie as they celebrate their victory in the instance. For now, Nozdormu’s dark fate ofbecoming Murozond inWorld of Warcraftseems to be averted, but Iridikron escaped with the essence of Galakrond in the process. The dragons then bring the focus back to Fyrakk and Vyranoth, the other remaining Primal Incarnates, who intend to attack the new World Tree–the name of which Alexstrasza reveals to be Amirdrassil.
Like previous World Trees, Amirdrassil shares the suffix -drassil, inspired by Yggdrasil of Norse mythology. The prefix amir- is likely taken from the Arabic word for “prince” or “commander” and the Hebrew word for “treetop” or “crown.” Given the connotations of this new,growing World Tree inWorld of Warcraft–and what it represents for the Night Elves, Dragons, and Azeroth as a whole–the name Amirdrassil seems fitting.
It seems all but inevitable thatWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.2 will focus on Amirdrassil, the Green Dragonflight, and the schemes of Fyrakk and Vyranoth. The former was established as a major threat in Embers of Neltharion, and the latter appeared in anemotional cutscene with Alexstrasza in this sameWorld of Warcraftpatch. Players can almost certainly expect the next part of the story to be about saving Amirdrassil from being destroyed by the Primal Incarnates.
While many players are eager to see where the story ofDragonflightgoes next, some players have concerns about the apparent conflict surrounding Amirdrassil. Teldrassil is still fresh in the minds of many Night Elf fans, and the idea of a fiery dragon attempting to burn yet another of their World Trees is something most players want to avoid. Hopefully,World of Warcraftplayers will be able to avert another such tragedyonce the second major content patch ofDragonflightreleases in a few months.
