Summary

In the last few months,Xbox Game Passhas really kicked things into high gear. While Xbox Game Pass has been touted as one of the best deals in gaming since its conception back in 2017, it’s really done its best to try and prove that recently. After a slower few months in the Summer, Game Pass started to rev itself up in August with titles likeSea of StarsandTexas Chain Saw Massacre, and then by the time September rolled around, Xbox Game Pass was firing on all cylinders, delivering huge hits likeStarfield,Lies of P,Party Animals,Payday 3, and a good few more.

Xbox Game Pass has been absolutely knocking it out of the park over the last few months, and that momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all. There are already eight games onXbox Game Pass' October 2023 line-up, including some real heavy hitters likeCities: Skylines 2,Gotham Knights, andForza Motorsport. But while Xbox Game Pass' October line-up is sure to keep players busy for the whole month with a variety of different genres and experiences, there’s one type of game that’s sorely missing from the roster when October is the spookiest season.

Xbox Game Pass' October 2023 Line-Up Is Missing Any Spooky Games

There are currently eight games confirmed forXbox Game Pass this October. These games cover a vast range of gaming genres, from racing, to turn-based strategy, to cozy farming sims, to city-management, to party games. But Xbox Game Pass' October 2023 line-up is missing any form of horror game, and that’s not ideal for the spookiest time of the year. The closest thing to a horror game Xbox Game Pass is bringing to the table in October isWarhammer 40K: Darktide, a 4-player horde game that certainly has plenty of gore and eerie enemies, but it’s not a full-on horror video game.

Thankfully, Xbox Game Pass does already have a pretty solid selection of horror games for fans to try out this Halloween. Both of Tango Gameworks’Evil Withintitles are on Game Pass already, and the originalDead Spacegames are also available on Game Pass via backwards compatibility. For more multiplayer-focused games, Xbox Game Pass already has bothDead by DaylightandBack 4 Blood. And if players really want to get spooked this October, then Game Pass has all theAmnesiagames ready to go.

But long-time horror fans will have likely already played the vast majority of these games, and long for a new spooky experience. There are more than a handful of excellent horror games that would make for greatXbox Game Passadditions. Any of the newResident Evilremakes would be incredible to see on Xbox Game Pass this October, as would the recentDead Spaceremake. The firstAlan Wakegame would also be a great addition to Xbox Game Pass, coming just in time for the sequel which lands at the end of the month.

The month of October should be all about the horror genre, and it’s a tad disappointing to see that Xbox Game Pass has seemingly missed the memo this year. Even PlayStation Plus seems to be joining in the festivities, giving playersThe Callisto Protocolas one of thefree games included with PS Plus' Essential tier. Of course, there’s still plenty of opportunity for Xbox to correct its mistake. It’s only the start of the month, and there’s more than enough time for Xbox Game Pass to bring some brand-new horror experiences to the table.
