Zack Snyder himself has long been one of the loudest and most prominent voices calling for the release of a fabled “Snyder Cut” for Warner Bros.' ill-receivedJustice Leaguemovie. Now that theSnyder Cut is officially headed to HBO Maxhowever, Snyder can finally begin to tease his own vision of the original movie, revealing to fans a short clip of the film in which Henry Cavill’s superman appears wearing a black Superman suit.
The clip was revealed at the fan-organized JusticeCon, during a segment titled “Spotlight on Zack Snyder,” where the director himself introduced the clip. In the brief scene, we see Superman, in his fancy new suit, landing next to Alfred and beginning to introduce himself. While the scene shown is only a few seconds, Snyder assured the panel that the actual meeting has much more going on in the final cut, and that what was shown is simply a teaser for what might come in the full release.

Precisely why Superman’s black suit is a big deal iskind of a long story, but the short version is that when Superman died in the comics, he eventually returned wearing a black suit that was meant to help restore his power. All of this occurred during the iconic “Death of Superman” story arc that remains one of the comic book industry’s most successful, and lucrative, story events. Zack Snyder has long claimed that his version ofJustice Leaguewould have included the iconic outfit, so it isn’t a huge surprise to see Superman’s new threads make it into the Snyder Cut.
Zack Snyder’s cut ofJustice Leaguehas been something of a controversial topic ever since the film released. After Snyder left the film midway through productiondue to an unfortunate family tragedy, the rest of the movie was finished by Joss Whedon, and several big changes were made to Snyder’s original version. The original production remainscontroversial for multiple reasons, but Snyder has been consistently grateful to the fans who requested his original version, and credits them with giving him the opportunity to produce this version ofJustice League. While it remains to be seen how Snyder’s version ofJustice Leagueholds up to the theatrical release, fans can doubtless look forward to more teases over the next year until the project finally hits HBO Max sometime in 2020.
The “Snyder Cut” ofJustice Leaguewill be available on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
