Summary

An unluckyThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer’s attempt to take out a group of Electric Chuchus backfired, killing Link in the process. The short clip of Link’s death may go down as one of thefunniest deaths inTears of the Kingdom.

One of the many aspects that makeThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomso different from previous games in the series is how easy it is for the player to die. In classicZeldagames, skilled players could get through entire adventures, only dying a handful of times. But inTears of the Kingdom, Link can easily be killed with one or two hits by many different monsters in the game, even if the player has an entire row of hearts for health. It’s common to findTears of the Kingdomclips showing players getting destroyed by Lynels and Gleeoks, but this most recent clip shows Link getting killed thanks to one of the most minor enemies in the game.

Reddit user KamikazeGhost posted a video of a routine battle with a few Chuchus that went terribly wrong. In the clip, Link is seen running into four Electric Chuchus, aclassic enemy in theZeldaseries. Knowing that Chuchus explode the second they’re attacked, Link backs up and positions himself far enough away before shooting the first Chuchu with an arrow. Instead of wasting three more arrows, Link tosses a bomb at the group of Chuchus, making them all explode instantly. Thinking his job is done, Link attempts to collect the Chuchu Jelly that was left behind, only to be killed by a random electrical blast. A yellow “Game Over” screen appears, signifying an electricity-based death.

The clip moves so fast that it’s understandable if some viewers don’t quite understand how this death occurred. It wasn’t just a random electrical blast; the player sealed their own fate when they threw the bomb in an area with grass around it.Bombs inTears of the Kingdomcan start a small fire when detonated near grass, and when grass is set on fire in the game, it creates an updraft. The updraft blew one of the Electric Jelly’s up into the air, and when it hit the ground, it exploded, dealing over four hearts of damage to Link, killing him instantly. If Link had more than four hearts in this scenario, he would have probably lived.

Much likeThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the physics inTears of the Kingdomare truly impressive and are like nothing else in video games. Not only can the player use the physics to their advantage when attacking enemies, but the realistic gravity can result in somehilarious deaths inTears of the Kingdomas well.
